About Andrea Mosey Art

What's your story?

I believe all art tells a story and I hope to tell you a little bit of my story through my art.

Paintings can touch your soul, can bring you joy, can evoke a memory of a time, a place or a person or simply just make you happy. I have a painting in my hall that I stop and look at nearly every time I pass it!

My work is centred around atmospheric landscapes with serene and ethereal skies. Paintings that capture the quietness of moments and invite reflection and introspection. A moment of stillness amidst the ever changing elements.

Whether you are looking for a unique painting for your home; a limited edition print to refresh your walls; a special gift for a loved one or simply just to treat yourself - my hope is that you find something in my work that captures your imagination.

A little bit about Andrea Mosey Studio

Based in beautiful North Yorkshire UK, I take my inspiration from the vast landscape around me. I work in oils for my landscape paintings and my work is known for its evocative and dramatic cloudy skies and wide open spaces.  My encaustic wax paintings tend to be more abstracted but the inspiration remains the same.

I have worked as a full time professional artist since May 2021 and have been building a sustainable practice ever since.

I sell my work through my website whilst also working with galleries across the UK.

In 2022, I moved into my wonderful studio at historic Newby Hall. I feel very lucky to work in such a beautiful place every day. Located in the old Stables, surrounded by the beautiful gardens and parkland of the Hall, it is a great space to fuel creativity.

For every space

You may be looking for a large statement piece or a smaller painting for a cosy corner, you can be safe in the knowledge that your painting has been handcrafted with quality materials and finished to the highest standard.

My original paintings come with wall fixings attached, ready to go straight on your wall. My limited edition prints can be purchased in a soft white mount and are shipped flat or if you already have a frame with a mount, you can just purchase the print which will be shipped in a postal tube.

Encaustic materials

I collaborate with a local beekeeper which means my encaustic paintings are made with locally produced beeswax from North Yorkshire hives, damar resin (a natural tree sap that acts as a hardening agent) and coloured pigments.

Beeswax is impervious to moisture, it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow or darken. There are ancient encaustic paintings in museums around the world that are thousands of years old and still look as fresh as the day they were painted.

A little bit about my practice

If only it was always like this - standing on a mountain top in front of my easel with my little dog at my side!

In reality, most of my work takes place in my studio. I gather lots of reference photos for cloud formations, colour palettes and landscape compositions. However, this gets put to one side when I start painting and I let my memory and imagination take over. I do occasionally paint from a reference photo but not very often.

I vary between painting 'alla prima' (all in one sitting) for my smaller oil paintings and working in layers for the larger pieces but it entirely depends on what I think the painting needs. I love the versatility of oil paint and all of its complexities.

My encaustic work usually has in excess of twenty layers of wax fused onto a wooden panel. Painted whilst molten, allowed to cool and then each layer is fused with a blowtorch so that it is all bonded together.

"I was lucky enough to attend one of Andrea's exhibitions and was immediately drawn to a painting that reminded me of where I grew up. It just drew me in and I could not stop looking at it, it literally gave me goosebumps.

I love the sense of peacefulness that her landscapes bring. If feels like you could be there, standing looking at the clouds and watching the world go by. It was a feeling that I wanted to take home with me, so I did!

 I'm absolutely delighted with it"

"I first saw Andrea’s work on Instagram and I fell in love with her amazing dramatic landscapes and seascapes. Her paintings are full of mood.

I recently lost a much loved Aunt, who was a true character and I wanted to buy something that would bring me joy in her memory so I purchased one of Andrea’s limited edition prints. It was a pleasure to buy from her, felt very personal and the print arrived beautifully packaged with a lovely card from Andrea. I am thrilled with it and hope to visit her studio in the future"

" I purchased a painting from Andrea's website and couldn’t be more happy with my experience. I was a little concerned purchasing online from the UK and having the painting shipped to the United States, but I was so pleased how smooth the process was. I received the shipping confirmation the next day and when I received my painting it was exactly as expected and expertly packed and securely boxed. This purchase will not be my last and would recommend purchasing beautiful art from Andrea. "
